The Blood Dumpsters

We have a lovely array of Blood Dumpsters, who are primed and ready for you to bleed all over them! These are the faces of politicians who have actively worked to pass legislation that will hinder women’s access to abortions, birth control, and Planned Parenthood, an organization that does more than provide birth control and abortions, but also offers education, STD tests, health exams, and so much more to people of all genders.

And don’t worry, with time we will only be adding more Dumpsters to our collection, so if your least favorite reproductive rights offender isn’t on here yet, they will be soon! (Want to suggest someone particularly horrible? Email

Donald Trump

2016 Presidential Candidate

Formerly pro-choice but announced that he was pro- life in 2011.

Arbitrarily began a barrage of attacks through social media and in the news on Megyn Kelly in 2015, after she questioned him on his treatment of women at the first Republican primary debate in August 2015. He publicly stated that she had “blood coming out of her wherever” and has continued to criticize her professionalism and journalism skills with absolutely no grounds. Read the article about this issue and Trump’s rampant misogyny here:

Todd Akin

Former U.S Representative for Missouri’s 2nd congressional district

Voted yes on banning federal funding for abortion clinics

Quote; “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something: I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child.”

Jeb Bush

Former Governor of Florida, Former 2016 Presidential Candidate

Bush defunded Planned Parenthood in Florida in 2001. The results: in 2014, “Florida is tied with Oklahoma and Arkansas for the worst state for women’s well-being in the country” ( (

Promised to defund Planned Parenthood nationally, if elected president (

Legalized specialty “Choose Life” Florida license plates in 1999, all proceeds from each license plate sale goes to Choose Life, a pro- life organization.

Ted Cruz

Junior United States Senator from Texas, 2016 Presidential Candidate

Cruz claims Planned Parenthood sells body parts and promises to prosecute Planned Parenthood for criminal violations if elected president. Planned Parenthood does not sell body parts and has done nothing illegal.

Believes insurance companies should have the right to deny insuring birth control.

Tom Emmer

U.S. House of Representative in Minnesota’s 6th District

Pro- life from conception to birth.

Supports “conscience clause” legislation which allows pharmacists to refuse a patient contraception on the basis of moral or religious reasons.

This isn’t a reproductive rights issue, but I felt it needed sharing: Emmer voted against anti- bullying legislation, which was created in the wake of multiple suicides of kids who were bullied for sexual orientation.

Mike Huckabee

Former Governor of Arkansas, 2008 & 2016 Presidential Candidate

Involved in passing Amendment 65 to the Arkansas constitution, which withdraws all state funds from abortions, unless the abortion will save the mother’s life.,_Proposed_Amendment_65_%281986%29

Promised to defund Planned Parenthood nationally, if elected president.

Legalized ‘choose life’ license plates in Arkansas, the proceeds of which go to pro- life organizations.

John Kasich

Governor of Ohio, 2015 Presidential Candidate

Supports national defunding of Planned Parenthood if elected president, currently working to defund Planned Parenthood in Ohio.

In 2013 signed a state budget bill into law which included a provision to keep state- funded rape crisis centers from referring women to abortion services.

Since becoming governor, the number of abortion providers in Ohio has dropped from 16 to 8.

Voted to pass a bill that would bar minors from crossing state lines to get an abortion

Sarah Palin

Former Governor of Alaska, 2008 Nominee for Vice President

Pro- life even in the case of rape
Does not believe public funds should support abortion

Questionable issue: Rape victims in Wasilla, AK were expected to pay for their own rape kits, due to a budget plan that was in place at the time that Palin was mayor of the town. Here’s more info, you decide what to take away from it:

Rand Paul

United States Senator from Kentucky, Former 2016 Presidential Candidate

Attempting to force a senate vote to defund Planned Parenthood, and promised as president to stop flow of tax dollars to Planned Parenthood.

Introduced S. 583, the Life at Conception Act,  a bill that advocates the right to life of every born and preborn human.

Supports “Burwell vs. Hobby Lobby” a ruling that allows corporations to be exempt from providing contraception in their healthcare plan, if corporation’s owners object on religious grounds.

Signed the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, which prohibits any federal funds to go towards health benefits coverages which includes coverage of abortion. (It is already illegal for federal funds to be used for abortion services.) This bill has been passed by the house, but is still being read by the senate.

Mike Pence

Governor of Indiana

Voted yes on banning federal funding for abortion clinics

Signed House Enrolled Act 1337 which prohibits abortions based on fetus’s race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, or diagnosis or potential diagnosis of the fetus having Down syndrome or any other disability. It also requires that all fetuses be cremated or interred. Last, it puts the physician who performed the abortion at risk of major penalization.

Rick Santorum

Former Senator of Pennsylvania, 2012 & 2016 US Presidential Candidate

I couldn’t have said it better: “Santorum wrongly claimed that “one in three pregnancies end in abortion” in the US when saying that abortion was to blame for funding problems for Social Security and Medicare. Santorum said: “The reason Social Security is in big trouble is we don’t have enough workers to support the retirees. Well, a third of all the young people in America are not in America today because of abortion, because one in three pregnancies end in abortion.”
First, fewer than one in four pregnancies ended in abortion in 2008, the most recent statistics available. Second, Santorum assumes the population is lower by a number equal to total abortions, but that’s not the case. One analyst told us “most women obtain abortions to postpone childbearing not to prevent it altogether” and an unknown number of pregnancies would have ended in miscarriage” (

And again: “Abortion is a popular topic for Santorum, who also was off in 2005 when he claimed in a book that female suicides and crime were “much worse” after Roe v. Wade. Suicides by women actually went down by a third since the Supreme Court decision made abortion legal. Female suicides dropped from 6.5 per 100,000 women in 1973 to 4.1 in 2001, the most recent stats at the time, according to the CDC. As for crime, the Department of Justice’s annual survey showed a drop in both property and violent crime since 1973. (For the record, the female suicide rate is still lower than 1973’s–4.8 as of 2007. And property and violent crime have continued to drop.)” (

Believes that Plan B counts as an abortion and should not be sold over the counter. More on that in this article, which has all sorts of other fun facts about ol’ Rick, that I would love to share but don’t have the space for:

Rick Scott

Governor of Florida

Supports defunding Planned Parenthood nationally

In March 2016, signed law that defunds all clinics providing abortion in Florida. State funding for abortion was already prohibited, but now “the new law also blocks money for services for low-income women at the clinics” (Huffington Post) who are receiving non- abortion related health services.

Scott Walker

Governor of Wisconsin

Cut all funding for Planned Parenthood in Wisconsin in 2011 and promised to do so nationally, if elected president.

Supports banning abortions even in the case of rape, incest, and to save the life of the mother. Also supports repealing a law requiring insurance companies to cover prescription birth control. He is the
